With the ever rising cost of fuel, providing data to allow owners and operators to reduce the amount of fuel consumed can be the key to a vessel’s increased profitability.

Auto-Maskin has provided a customized solution for Bourbon Offshore.

Bourbon, one of the largest operators in the offshore support sector, has developed a major program to understand the fuel consumption and hence emission levels of their fleet as part of their commitment to the environment and responsible operations. Auto-Maskin has provided a unique customized solution for Bourbon Offshore to help them achieve this goal.

As Bourbon’s fleet has grown significantly so has their installations of the Cummins QSK60 engines. These very successful engines have a type of fuel system which does not lend well to a mechanical type of fuel consumption measurement system, and the communications protocols from the engine are also differing from the norm.

Auto-Maskin developed with the engineers at Barcol Air, the Auto-Maskin distributor in Singapore, a simple retrofittable system that accurately develops fuel consumption data, with minimal installation impact and a secure clear display of the results. The EM57 fuel consumption meter provides a variety of results either displayed, datalogged or downloadable via a secure memory device. The ability of the vessel operations team to link fuel consumption / speed/range accurately has provided daily operational improvements.

The data fed back to the operational and Corporate centres has also allowed Bourbon to move towards its goals of better planetary stewardship and increasing efficiency across the fleet, Auto-Maskin has the ability to develop solutions across many engine and vessel platforms, and are pleased to be able to contribute to the increasing reduction in emissions in the marine industry.
