The Sykehuset i Vestfold (SiV) hospital, located in Norway, is a vital medical facility specializing in advanced surgeries and emergency care. For hospitals like SiV, ensuring continuous, reliable power is crucial to maintaining patient safety and enabling life-saving operations.

To meet these demands, SiV relies on a robust infrastructure, featuring multiple power grids and emergency generators. Auto-Maskin was entrusted with integrating these energy sources into an advanced control system designed to maximize uptime and safeguard patient care.

When the hospital’s power system needed an upgrade, Auto-Maskin was awarded the power control project, coordinating with various suppliers. This complex task involved assisting with the replacing of the emergency generators — without disrupting the continuity of power.

Through careful planning, the strategic use of mobile generators, and expert adaptation of the control system, the upgrade was executed seamlessly. One of the key challenges in such critical projects is the inability to perform live on-site testing. To mitigate this, Auto-Maskin implemented rigorous risk management and quality engineering processes well in advance, ensuring a safe and smooth transition.

Lead engineer Tom Sameien shares his perspective:

“Commissioning such a complex system without the ability to conduct live on-site testing presents unique challenges. We had to be particularly thorough in our preparations to minimize unforeseen incidents. To address potential scenarios, our engineering team held frequent, detailed design meetings, ensuring we maintained tight control over the project and delivered it ahead of schedule.”

This project underscores Auto-Maskin’s 50+ years of experience and dedication to delivering innovative solutions that prioritize reliability and safety, even in the most demanding environments.

We are honored to have been entrusted with this critical project and proud to have contributed to SiV’s mission of providing top-tier healthcare.
